Dam Square is at the very heart of this exciting Dutch capital, a mecca for both history buffs and modern, urban adventurers alike. And the Swissotel couldn’t have positioned itself any better – right at the very heart of Dam Square. Quintessentially Dutch in all but name, this luxury property offers sumptuous, well-appointed rooms, all set behind a beautiful, 19th-Century façade. We felt a real sense of boutique hospitality during our visit – despite this property being part of a multinational chain, it was laid back in its service, yet with enough attention to detail to ensure that our every whim was catered to. Our Junior Suite was sophisticated and contemporary, with a large bathroom, perfect for us to get ready for a night out to paint the city red, or orange, as they do in Amsterdam. To keep things on theme for the perfect Dutch weekender, cocktails on the terrace gave us perfect people-watching.

| All the city’s attractions are close by, especially if you opt for the free hotel bicycle, the real way to see Amsterdam. You could also take the hotel up on their cycling package, where they’ll throw in a route map, picnic hamper and tickets to the Rijksmuseum. |
