San Diego’s Hotel del Coronado is a retro enthusiasts dream-come-true. Not only is it the setting of one of my all time favourite classics, Marilyn Monroe’s Some Like it Hot, the hotel has been a National Historic Landmark since 1977 with 130 years of stories to tell. And the tradition continues, visiting the hotel and experiencing its luxury, you can rub shoulders with celebs, socialites and today, mermen!
The hotel founded the ‘Mermaid Fitness’ programme, the latest trend allegedly taking the US by storm – it’s a 45-minute fusion of swimming, core, cardio and strength training – all while wearing a custom mermaid tail, that you can take home with you after the experience is over. And the ocean-themed luxury doesn’t end there – from beach therapy, to great seafood gastronomy – you’re bound to have a whale of a time! (See what I did there?)
As if this is not enough for a visit to San Diego alone, the property is set on a beach that is voted no. 1 in the US and with a vibrant, exciting city on the hotel’s doorstep it’s definitely an experience worth taking the plunge for – ok nautical puns over, I promise.
