Love is in the air – or in this case in our hair – at the Mondrian London. A surprise awaited us in our sumptuous suite at this luxury property on London’s River Thames last weekend – a ‘Love and Paint’ kit – designed to get us to unleash our inner artists, not to mention our inhibitions. The idea was that we could create our own abstract piece of art, capturing the beauty and passion of our Valentine’s lovemaking, by dousing ourselves in paint and romping around on canvas.
For this ‘Love me, Paint me’ package, the hotel has collaborated with New York artist, Alexander Esguerra, who came up with the idea back in 2009. At the Mondrian, our kit featured a black-linen canvas with hand-hemmed edges, three jars of (not edible, take it from me) artists’ body paints, a signature artist brush and pairs of slippers (handier than you’d think!).
A complimentary bottle of Perrier-Jouët got us in the spirit of things soon enough as we writhed and wriggled to create our own piece of art to take home, not to mention a fond memory laced with several bouts of childish giggling. Admittedly, the whole experience was a lot of fun – a very unique way to spend a ‘dirty weekend’ away from home.
Our stay included a wonderful breakfast at the Sea Containers restaurant, you won’t believe how meticulously we scrubbed and checked each other for paint before heading out for our full-English among the other guests. The late, 2pm checkout that came as part of the package was a blessing, allowing us to slip away before the poor member of the housekeeping team had the chance to reprimand us for the ‘artistic’ state we left the room in.
The ‘Love Me. Paint Me’ package is available at Mondrian London from Friday 10 February 2017 until Sunday 19 February 2017 (inclusive), and can be booked directly with the hotel. But even if you can’t make it, the team at the Mondrian will go out of the way to satisfy ever traveller whim you may have, no matter how artistic.
