XV Beacon
Boston, Massachusetts, USA

Boston isn’t known as a fashionista city, but as one that’s steeped in history. So to our surprise, we found the XV Beacon bucking the trend of old-world places to stay, fusing contemporary and heritage effectively. Albeit a slightly pretentious name, this property has every reason to be proud of what it has achieved. Set in the beautiful Beaux-Arts building in the American blue-blood neighborhood of Beacon Hill, it has just sixty rooms, but over thirty thousand bottles of wine and one magnificent, cast-iron elevator.

There’s a playful air to the decor, as gentlemen we felt at home in our sophisticated bedroom, with wood-paneled walls, four-poster bed and a gas fireplace; but look again and you’ll note modern dark wood tones, spindleless bed posts, clean lines and a stainless steel-clad fireplace. This approach to design continues throughout the hotel – marble busts and abstract art complete the statement. This is definitely a hotel that’s fit for a queen and it seems that the management have recognized this; the property is a member of the Preferred Hotels Group ‘Preferred Pride’ program of gay-welcoming luxury places to stay.
