We don’t need to be asked twice when adventure calls: having explored a fair share of northern Africa’s landscapes in the making of our Marvellous Marrakech issue in 2018, we positively fell in love with the ancient Kingdom of Morocco. Though Africa being the world’s second-largest continent, there are plenty more discoveries to be made south of the Sahara. A rather special one down in Zambia has us reaching for our hiking boots – and a celebratory glass of champagne.
In just ten years of adventure-crafting, The Luxury Safari Company have made themselves a name as a leading entity in tailor-made luxury tourism across Africa, and their latest endeavour is gearing up to set the bar high for the intrepid travellers we’d like to think we are (no, really!). It’s an epic voyage inviting guests to take to Zambia’s most exhilarating landscapes by jeep, canoe and, most thrillingly, on foot!
Expected to run from September through December 2020, the bespoke journey has been created in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the first guided walking safari, established by British conservationist Norman Carr, MBE in South Luangwa National Park. Fearless explorers will get the chance to observe Zambia’s astonishing wildlife in its natural habitat – we’re talking leopards, lions, elephants, hippos, buffalos, the endemic Thornicroft’s giraffe and a whole lot more: in essence, it’s all of Africa neatly lined up and a mere stone’s throw away. Though should you opt for two stone-throws, the experience still makes for a perfectly valid wildlife encounter in our book.
Less adrenaline-thirsty safari-goers won’t go out empty-handed, either, for accommodation includes stays at the brand-new luxury camp Puku Ridge, whose private plunge pools and rooftop beds perfect for stargazing in the savannah have us fly to it like bees to honey, as well as a fly camping experience at Tusk and Mane in the most breathtaking corner of Lower Zambezi National Park – like we’d needed another excuse to extend our safari wardrobe.
