Miami has had a long history of reinvention. Nearly a hundred years after it first opened, the iconic Traymore has, as they say in Miami, “had some work done.” Being adopted into the COMO family means chic, signature stylings have been applied throughout – you’re going to have to love white, blue and mint green – with minimalist interiors and cool terrazzo flooring applied by the brand’s favourite designer, Paola Navone. Sea-view suites over Miami beach are the rooms of choice, ours faced back into Lake Pancoast, which is not as fabulous as it sounds, but no less comfortable. The COMO Shambhala Urban Escape occupies the top two floors of the hotel, a sanctuary of calm with uninterrupted views of the dazzling blue sea. We enjoyed the hotel’s relaxed and leisurely vibe, a breath of fresh air in party-hearty Miami. South Beach was all but a short walk or Uber away, but we felt that we could escape the madness whenever we wanted to. Where there is room for improvement is on a team level. While the check-in staff were wonderful, as were they at the pool, other members were very laid back, particularly in the restaurant where the service is slow, borderline sluggish – despite beaming, big smiles and great conviviality.
