Situated in a 7,000-acre private wildlife reserve, The One and Only Wolgan Valley is the ultimate luxury, wilderness escape. We chilled out in one of their country-chic Heritage Villas, the highlights being a sumptuous four-poster bed, a private swimming pool and cosy, separate sitting room. We took in the spectacular scenery that surrounds the hotel from our secluded terrace, a perfect way to recharge for the many hikes we had planned.

The hotel also provides excursions in the bush and two experiences a day are included in the cost of accommodation. We opted to see the Blue Mountains on horseback and stargaze at night, but other choices included sweating it out on a mountain bike or heading off for a wildlife drive to spot the local kangaroos hopping around. After a long day’s exploring, we kicked back in the cool, contemporary spa, nestled deep in the forest (the rejuvenating deep cleansing purity facial and invigorating bushman massage is the perfect way to unwind). Sundowners is a must and the property’s bar is the perfect spot to toast the day’s adventures before dinner by the fire in The Wolgan Dining Room.
