Villa with a view at Six Senses Samui, Thailand

Six Senses Samui
Koh Samui, Thailand

Rustic rainforests, haunting hillsides, a sublime sea – this stunning, extravagant sister of the quickly multiplying Six Senses family, the Six Senses Samui has got it all – and despite its manufactured old-world luxury, it manages to give you a sense that you’ve really packed it all up and run away from the rat race.

Whether you want to play in the infinity pool, or sigh at the amazing sea view from the resort’s private beach, or chill in a hammock in your private villa styled on a traditional Thai fisherman’s cottage – the Six Senses Samui is certainly the place on Samui to do it.

Whilst we realise that out-of-this-world, getaway hospitality can be hard to be perfect, this is an example where Six Senses are seriously trying and winning. Set up like a Thai fishing village, this sustainable eco-resort is all about making the most of me time, the sun and the sea. What really stood out is that the property has been designed so that we really felt like we had it just to ourselves. There are just over 60 private villas, each true to the brand’s signature thatch, wood and bamboo, barefoot luxury feel and designed to be open to the elements and take advantage of the breathtaking views. Some have their own plunge pool (so go big or go home), with their own sala pool house and inviting daybed where we crashed all day with a book and glasses of chilled, Thai iced-tea. The Six Senses standards, outdoor rain shower and bathtubs with a view complete the luxury accommodation. It’s easy to understand why once you enter, you don’t want to come out.

For those looking for a bit of ‘social’ life, resort has its own farm, so if like us you adore baby goats for company, you’re in for a treat. Kidding aside, there’s more of a convivial atmosphere in the cocktail bar, where drinks are served literally ‘on the rocks.’ The hotel’s fabulous food can be had in simple, but sublime locations: choose from, the rocks, the hill or the beach.

But to top of the experience is to spend a day (or two, three even) in the Six Senses Samui spa where we experienced rejuvenating Thai Healing therapies rooted in the centuries-old art of Thai massage.

All in all, a truly blissful escape.

While you’re Out There
Koh Samui is quite a hip and happening island, so on one of your blissful days, do consider a sojourn out. If you’re party-hearty, then head to a beach bar, many will recommend the infamous Nikki Beach, but we all know what to expect there! Instead, we opted for the more chilled Chi Samui at Bangrak and even popped our heads into the furthermore laid back Karma Beach Club at Bophut for an escapist vibe to match the one of our holiday.
